After 2 years with Sounders, Pappa was transferred to Colorado Rapids

The Guatemalan midfielder Marco Papa had to be offloaded in order for a cash injection. During his time in the Major League Soccer club, he managed to find the back of the net on 9 ocassions and provide 11 assists, all of which were completed in 49 season appearances after he joined Seattle Sounders before the initiation of the 2014 campaign.

This transfer was completed on December 15 and it’s a deal that Colorado Rapids was in need to complete as the MLS club finished in the bottom spot of the Western Conference in 2015 and they need to sign some reinforcements in order to improve the squad which has been noticeably struggling in recent times.

Marco Pappa is a huge signing for Colorado Rapids as the Guatemalan midfielder is a player who is able to not only score goals but also provide plenty assists and he has also shown his worth in the big stage as he scored both goals which helped Seattle Sounders in their final match against Los Angeles Galaxy and Sounders ultimately came out on top with the victory as they secured the Supporters Shield of that year. SEATTLE STAND BY SCHMID

The hierarchy of Seattle Sounders has made clear that Sigi Schmid will not be given the axe and he would keep on working as the head coach of the senior team for another season.

Seattle could not produce the expected results in the recently finished MLS season as they finished at the 4th position in the Western Conference and then got knocked out from the playoffs losing to FC Dallas, a club which they would have backed themselves to beat.

It was a pretty close playoff tie actually. Both the legs ended up with the same score line of 2-1 with both the sides winning one each and it came down to penalty shoot outs eventually where Dallas proved better.

Compared to how the previous year had gone for the Sounders where they had managed to clinch two trophies, it was a sort of failure, this 2015 season and there was a general feeling that Schmid would be made the scapegoat for that.

But, that did not turn out to be the case as Garth Lagerwey, one of the owners of the club, told the reporters yesterday that not too much of thought was put into Schmid’s position in the board meeting and it was unanimously decided that the coach should continue as he had been doing his job well. There had been speculation that Schmid would be sacked after one fan placed a bet with StanJames that Schmid would walk.

In the words of Lagerwey, “I think I should put an end to all the rumours that are circling around regarding Sigi. He is somebody who is highly respected here at Seattle and has got the support and faith of all. He is going to remain in charge of the team. Honestly speaking, we did not have any lengthy discussion on Sigi. We were of the same view that he should continue.”

Seattle Sounders’ hopes of winning the MLS club will have to wait

Seattle Sounders’ hopes of winning the MLS club will have to wait for another season after the team was defeated on penalties by FC Dallas.

The semi-final loss means that the club face an uncertain future especially with regards to manager Sigi Schmid. The MLS coach is one of the respected in North America after having won a whole host of trophies prior to his move to Seattle Sounders. However, he has been unable to lead his current team to MLS glory. Seattle have been chasing the MLS title since 2009. This drought may cost Schmid his job before the start of the 2016 season.

The manager said that his future was not in his hands and that it was up to the owners to decide whether he stays or not. However, he expressed his desire to continue as the Seattle Sounders manager. The club looked like being in great condition to challenge for the cup. They may have finished fourth in the Western Conference table, but Seattle Sounders were unbeaten in all competitions since the 1-0 defeat against Olimpia in the CONCACAF Champions League back in August. They even went on a four match winning run before the start of the play-offs. Failure to produce results when it counts the most has once again been the reason for the downfall. Mr. Lagerwey, is hopeful of Jordan Morris joining in at some point of time in future

The GM of Seattle Sounders, Mr. Lagerwey, is hopeful of Jordan Morris joining in at some point of time in future.

Morris has so far been disinterested in making a move to Seattle and has preferred to continue playing for his university.

He has already made his debut in international Football and has even found the net on one occasion, but, for some reason, he has kept himself away from the Major League Soccer.

People don’t quite understand despite being good enough and having offers on the table, why Morris does not want to showcase his skills at the top level.

The Seattle GM reckons maybe Morris is too obsessed with college life and that’s why, he is a bit reluctant to move on.

Talking about Morris, Lagerwey said, “College years are very enjoyable for any youngster and Jordan is no different. He is having a great time at Stanford at the minute and he wants to be there for a little while which is completely understandable.”

“It would be great for us to have him on board if and when it happens. He has already shown at the international level what a wonderful talent he is.” Continue reading “Mr. Lagerwey, is hopeful of Jordan Morris joining in at some point of time in future”

Sigi Schmid tried to invent a new position for midfielder Brad Evans

Sigi Schmid tried to invent a new position for midfielder Brad Evans, although it was largely due to the club’s current injury problems.

The midfielder was used as a centre back in the recent match against San Jose Earthquakes. The experiment proved to be a disaster after Seattle Sounders conceded three goals and lost the match 3-2. This turned out to be the first setback of the season for the club and it has come very early in the campaign. Seattle Sounders managed a convincing 3-0 win over New England Revolution in the first match of the season.

This victory raised hopes that the club would challenge for a title this season. However, they have been brought back to earth after this defeat, which leaves them six points adrift of the leaders Dallas even at this early stage.Schmid can take heart from the fact that Dallas have played one game more than Seattle Sounders. Despite the failure in the first match,Schmid intends to carry on with his experiment and it is almost certain that Evans may continue in the centre back position if the club’s injury situation does not improve before the next match against table leaders Dallas. Seattle Sounders are away from home for this key clash. Continue reading “Sigi Schmid tried to invent a new position for midfielder Brad Evans”
