Seattle Sounders beat Real Salt Lake 2-1

Seattle Sounders continue their recent improvement by beating Real Salt Lake by 2-1.

This is clearly an improvement from a side that has the unwanted record of having lost the most games in the MLS. Against a side that had the possibility to move into the third place of the table, Seattle Sounders did exceptionally well to win the game.

Seattle Sounders manage to dominate the game from the start to the end. Indeed, they ended the game by having twice as much shot on target than their opponents. Indeed they manage to shoot 18 times on target compared to the 9 by their opponent.

Seattle Sounders opened the scoring in the 24th minute after a great start to the game. They did not allow Real Salt Lake a lot of time on the table, and they pressed them high on the pitch. They will be rewarded with a second goal in the 37th minute to make the score 2-0. The first goal was scored by the Uruguay player Lodeiro who showed his quality on a long shot. Seattle Sounders need to build some confidence in front of goal

Seattle Sounders only need to build some confidence in front of goal before they start to end the poor run of form according to manager Sigi Schmid.

The club have had a disastrous 2016 MLS season as they have averaged just over a point per game so far. The recent 1-0 loss against New York City FC was the second consecutive defeat for the team. More importantly, it means that they are unlikely to rediscover the good form that they enjoyed only a few weeks ago. Only recently, Seattle Sounders managed to comfortably beat DC United before going on to win against Kitsap Pumas in the US open cup.

Frank Lampard opened the scoring for New York City during the weekend. The former Chelsea midfielder is known for scoring a lot of goals even from his position. However, there was a touch of controversy about the goal that he scored on Sunday. This was his second goal in as many games, but Seattle Sounders felt that his goal should have been disallowed for handball.Schmid says that the referee failed to notice that Lampard used his hands inadvertently and this later turned out into an advantage for scoring. Seattle Sounders suffered an early setback through the goal, which was conceded just six minutes from half-time.

Schmid leaves Sounders after eight years

With the Seattle Sounders currently sitting second from bottom in the MLS Western Conference, and having scored a total of just twenty goals so far this season, it comes as little surprise that Head Coach Sigi Schmid has parted company with the club after eight years in charge.

Schmid has led the Sounders for the entirety of their MLS history, and despite winning the US Open Cup on four occasions, and the MLS Supporters Shield once during his time in charge, the mutual agreement to terminate his contract was predicted by many beforehand. However, some within the game have questioned the timing of the decision, with such a shake-up in midseason leaving the club in a difficult position. Morris could have helped USA team

Seattle Sounders manager SigiSchmid has stated that Jordan Morris could have been helpful to the United States soccer team in the Copa America.

Indeed with Bobby Wood suspended, the US manager brought in Chris Wondolowski as the replacement and SigiSchmid believes that Jordan Morris would have been more helpful in the team.

There were many United States fans who questioned the selection of Chris Wondolowski ahead of Jordan Morris. They believe that the Seattle Sounders is a player that is currently in form and would have proved to be more valuable at the Copa America Centenario.

SigiSchmid stated that Jordan Morris would have definitely helped the US team at the Copa when Bobby Wood was suspended. For him, it would have been a like-for-like replacement, and it would not have affected the US game. He said that Morris has the necessary skills, determination, and aggressiveness to help any team win a game.

He believes that the suspension of Bobby Wood has affected the US team at the Copa America and if the US coach had chosen to select Jordan Morris it would have been more beneficial for the team as he plays a similar game to Bobby Wood.

USA SOCCER ASKS EEOC FOR COMPLAINT DISMISSAL

The United States Soccer Federation asked the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission for the dismissal of wage discrimination complains that was raised by the national women team.

The Soccer Federation was mentioned in the complaint filed in March this year by five female players of the national squad that won the World Cup.

The players complained that the earnings of the male counterpart of the national team were four times more than theirs. The USSF responded via a statement it sent to the Chicago office of the EEOC by Latham & Watkins, which is the law firm representing the federation. The statement read that there is no evidence that the body was acting with any sort of discriminatory motive or is in violation of the law.

The letter that was sent contained detailed financial information regarding the team’s compensation structure. The statement read:

“The suggestion that US Soccer has been anything other than strongly suporrtive of the WNT is deeply disappointing and inaccurate.”

The EEOC compliant came after the federation filed a lawsuit against the players’ union in an attempt to establish it has a contract with the soccer players association that was set to run till the 31st of December this year. On the other hand, the union maintains that the memorandum of understanding agreed to in March 2013 can be called off when dim fit. Continue reading “USA SOCCER ASKS EEOC FOR COMPLAINT DISMISSAL”
