Seattle Sounders have recruited first-round 2018 MLS SuperDraft pick Alex Roldan alongside Jordan McCrary to the first-team squad, general manager Garth Lagerwey has confirmed. In a statement released on the club’s official website, he said: “We were excited to draft Alex last month and, like his brother, we anticipate him being a positive addition to our club.”

Alex Roldan, who happens to be the younger sibling of fourth-year Sounders midfielder Cristian played for the Seattle University football team for four years, where he scored 18 goals and contributed a further 17 assists in 82 outings. The 21-year-old midfielder was selected by the Sounders with the 22nd overall pick in the draft.

Meanwhile, McCrary has also joined last season’s MLS Cup finalists after he made 27 appearances, which included 19 starts for Toronto FC II in 2017. He was the 10th overall selection in the MLS SuperDraft back in 2016 by New England Revolution, but his playing time was sparse with just two US Open Cup appearances and the other coming with the Revs’ USL affiliate Rochester Rhinos.

Jordan had a trial with the Sounders during their pre-season, and Lagerwey expressed his contention at having signed the 24-year-old, who will offer additional depth in the fullback position, he said: “Jordan has shown well during his trial with us throughout preseason and we believe gives us some quality depth at the fullback position.”

With the pair’s arrival, the Sounders now have a teamsheet of 25 players ahead of a preseason friendly versus Sacramento Republic FC on Thursday. Shortly after, the Western Conference side will play their first competitive fixture of the season in the CONCACAF Champions League after which the new MLS season begins with a curtain-raiser at home against newly-inducted expansion franchise Los Angeles FC on March 4.
