For the past few seasons, Seattle Sounders have secured the 4th spot of the MLS Western Conference which is a fairly disappointing thing to see as Seattle Sounders were able to snatch the 1st spot in the debut season of the Major League Soccer but from there on out, they have had to settle with the 4th position.
Brian Schmetzer is hoping to change this and hopefully break their curse of finishing at the 4th spot and the head coach of Seattle Sounders has opted to sign Tyron Mears and Gustav Svensson. Those are the 2 initial signings that Seattle Sounders has secured in 2017 with the purpose of helping the Major League Soccer club in snatching a higher position than their usual placements of recent years.
Gustav Svensson is a 30 year old defensive midfielder that spent 10 years performing in Sweden with various clubs and he opted to extend his playing career by joining a club in the MLS which is something that Svensson had never done.
After the transfer was completed, the General Manager & President of Soccer Garth Lagerwey had a few things to say concerning the recent signing of Gustav Svensson as he said:
“We’re excited to add Gustav to our roster and he has joined our training camp in Tucson. He brings a wealth of experience, a track record of success and versatility to our team, and we’re eager to see how he impacts our squad in 2017.”
The head coach of Seattle Sounders, Brian Schmetzer also had a few things to say in relation to the Swedish signing and the American coach stated that he is looking forward to work and be able to utilize the services of Gustav Svensson especially for the fact that he can bring variety to the squad.
